ENJOY THE FULL DERMA SKIN CLEAR ROUTINE FOR VISIBILY CLEARER SKIN

In the morning and evening, always use Wash Gel as first step: gently massage onto wet face and rinse. Then, gently pat Toner onto washed face with hands or a cotton pad and do not rinse off. With both products, avoid eye area.

In the evenings, at the end of your routine, apply the Night Exfoliator onto a well-cleansed face.*

Use the Anti-blemish Scrub as an alternative to the Night Exfoliator. Use occasionally (recommended 2-3 times a week), gently massaging onto wet face after cleansing your face with the Wash Gel. Rinse off before applying Toner. Avoid eye area.

*A slight stinging sensation can occur. Do not use on irritated skin; discontinue use if irritation occurs; consult a doctor if irritation persists; avoid contact with eyes. This product contains alpha hydroxy acids that may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. What causes blemishes?

The main cause for blemishes is an excessive sebum production, known as seborrhea, and mostly an abnormal thickening of the external layers of skin. The professional word is hyperkeratosis, which leads to an inadequate desquamation of dead cells. Both in combination cause a clogging of pores, known as comedones: black- or whiteheads in simple terms. These clogged pores are the perfect environment for bacteria (mostly Cutibacterium acnes). Visible inflammation and redness are also most likely to occur. Whether prominent or smaller, pimples are always perceived as a nuisance.

What is the difference between AHA and BHA and how do they work?

AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acids. These natural substances are found in fruits, among other things, which is why they are also known as fruit acids. The most important AHAs in skin care include glycolic acid, mandelic acid and lactic acid. They work mainly on the skin surface, supporting cell renewal and dissolving dead skin cells. Glycolic Acid helps with oily, blemished skin, as it exfoliates the skin. BHA (beta hydroxy acid) is Salicylic Acid. The fat-soluble substance penetrates deeper into the skin layers than AHAs do. It penetrates the pores, cleansing the sebaceous gland ducts from the inside and thus freeing them from excess sebum. At the same time, it has an anti-inflammatory effect that reduces redness.
Because AHAs are less effective in exfoliation, but therefore gentler, we use more of them. In addition, they usually also have a moisturizing effect. BHA is very effective in exfoliation, so we don’t need much of it. Also, salicylic acid has antibacterial effect.

Acid on the skin sounds a bit harmful …

Salicylic Acid for instance is one of the longest used medicinally. Used externally, it has a primarily corneal dissolving effect, which explains its use in acne and cornification disorders. Human skin regenerates continuously. Older skin cells die, keratinize and eventually exfoliate. This exfoliation is promoted by externally applied salicylic acid. It has a keratolytic efficacy, what means it forces the horny cells of the outermost skin layer to break up and peel off. It frees the pores from impurities and supports the skin’s own natural renewal process.

What concentration do the new products contain?

The NIVEA DERMA Skin Clear Night Exfoliator, our hero product, contains in total eight percent of the acid complex. In this dosage, the active ingredient can be used long-term without hesitation.

And how does Niacinamide helps blemished skin?

Niacinamide is a water-soluble derivate of Vitamin B3. It is considered to be particularly well tolerated in skin care and suitable for reducing oily skin. Combination and oily skin prone to blemishes benefits from the anti-inflammatory and sebum-regulating action of Niacinamide. Another invaluable advantage in skin care is that you can combine it with other ingredients.

What is the result of this combination?
